Jackie Kay and Helen Oyeyemi – Brighton

Jackie Kay and Helen Oyeyemi – Jackie Kay reading from her new collection of poetry ‘Fiere’. What a star she was with her warmth and humour  giving us a taste of her continuing search for self identity.

Nigerian-born Helen Oyeyemi joined Jackie on the stage to read from her new book the mischievous tale of Mr Fox, a story of love, lies and profound truths. I found some of these extracts quite disturbing as she endeavoured to steer us through the complexities of the plot.

An interview at the outset covered so many issues it made questions from the audience very slow.    I would have preferred less interview and more reading from both parties.
