Spring on the allotment
Spring is begging for attention,
time to dig in the new strawberry plants
for Sadie to dib in the new seeds,
the courgettes to be potted up.
The onions and garlic have been
safely in their beds
since the autumn and are thriving
they cast a patronising glance in the direction
of newcomers, while Alan fills a can
from the newly installed water butt
ready wash away their arrogance
and any potential arguments.
