Note for non poets

Haiku is a form of Japanese poetry with three lines 5/7/5  syllables.   It has a long tradition and usually about an aspect of nature with a more philosophical thought for the last line.
Tanka is less well known in Britain but is a traditional Japanese style of poetry which adds two lines of 7 syllables.

In Britain and America it is considered acceptable to use the line count and syllable count to create poems on modern themes.

My first Haiku was written in Rottingdean five years ago.
