Caught in a blizzard – poem

Sisterhood in the 60s

Trapped in the cottage during a blizzard
we manage to light the old gas lamp hanging
on a chain on the ceiling, coax half a bucket
of water from the well, find a tin of soup
to heat on the primus stove and breastfeed
our sons huddled under warm blankets.
